Day 10. Phuentsholing to Bagdogra
Arrive at Bagdogra Airport by early flights. You will be received at the airport and driven to Phuentsholing, the border town of Bhutan. As you cross into Bhutan, you'll notice the change in landscape from the Indian plains to the lush, hilly terrain of the kingdom. In the evening, explore the town and stay at Phuentsholing.
Our guide will help you complete the immigration formalities before we start on a drive to Paro, known for its ancient monasteries and traditional Bhutanese architecture. Upon arrival, visit the Rinpung Dzong, an iconic fortress-monastery offering stunning views of the valley. Take a leisurely evening stroll through the town to admire its charm and relax.
Set out early for the iconic hike to the Tiger's Nest Monastery (Paro Taktsang), perched on a cliffside 3,120 meters above sea level. The trek takes you through lush forests, with panoramic views of the Paro Valley below. Upon reaching the monastery, experience its serene atmosphere and rich history, before returning to your hotel in Paro.
The drive from Paro to Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital, is a scenic one through mountain roads. In Thimphu, visit the Buddha Dordenma statue, one of the largest in the world, offering breathtaking views of the city. Spend the evening exploring the lively streets, local markets, and Bhutanese handicraft shops.
Today’s journey through the beautiful Dochula Pass, known for its 108 ‘Chortens’ and stunning 360-degree views of the Himalayan range. Upon arrival, visit the Punakha Dzong, one of the most beautiful and historically significant fortresses in Bhutan. Enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of the Punakha Valley before settling into your hotel.
Begin your day with a visit to the Chimi Lhakhang, a monastery dedicated to the "Divine Madman," Drukpa Kunley. Explore the scenic Punakha Valley, known for its paddy fields and lush vegetation, and take a peaceful walk along the suspension bridge over the Pho Chhu River. In the afternoon, visit the Sangchhen Dorji Lhakhang, a less-known gem in the area.
Drive from Punakha to Phobjikha, an awe-inspiring glacial valley and home to the rare black-necked cranes during the winter months. After exploring Phobjikha’s pristine beauty, continue your journey towards Bumthang, the spiritual heart of Bhutan.
Spend the morning visiting key sites in Bumthang, such as the Jakar Dzong and the sacred Kurjey Lhakhang, known for its historical and spiritual significance. After lunch, take a scenic drive back to Thimphu, reflecting on your journey through Bhutan’s most beautiful and peaceful landscapes. Once in Thimphu, enjoy some leisure time to explore or shop for souvenirs.
After a leisurely breakfast, drive to Phuentsholing. Enjoy the scenic drive and check in to the hotel by evening.
You may start from Phuentsholing as per your flight timings out of Bagdogra. Arrive in Bagdogra, where you can catch your flight back home, taking with you memories of Bhutan’s natural beauty, spiritual richness, and warm hospitality.
